The 2nd Meeting on the Follow-up of the Joint Statement on Inland Navigation and Environmental Sustainability in the Danube River Basin


The 1st Meeting was held on January 29-30, 2009, in Budapest, and the 2nd Meeting on the Follow-up of the Joint Statement on Inland Navigation and Environmental Sustainability in the Danube River Basin was held on March 9-10 2010 in Zagreb, Croatia. It hosted more than 60 participants representing the relevant bodies and institutions from the Danube countries, the three river commissions (ICPDR, DC, ISRBC), European Commission, as well as interested stakeholders from the governmental, business, academic and civil sectors.
The main topics at the meeting included:
- overview of the current state of the IWT bottleneck projects in the Danube countries, which included the case of rehabilitation and development of navigation in the Sava river basin, as well;
- presentation and discussion of the Joint Statement system for information exchange, and
- presentation and discussion of the draft Manual on Good Practices in Sustainable Waterway Planning, which has been prepared under the PLATINA project, including discussions and feedback at two stakeholder workshops in 2009 (Zagreb, June 9-10, 2009, and Ruse, September 15-16, 2009).
Next meeting will be hosted by the ICPDR, in first quarter of 2011, tentatively.
