Sava Commission takes part in the PLATINA Project Steering Committee

The PLATINA project, which is financed by the EU Framework Programme 7, was launched in June 2008, with primary aim to support the European Commission, member states and third countries in the implementation of NAIADES – the EC's action programme for the promotion of the inland waterway transport (IWT) in Europe.

The PLATINA Project Steering Committee (PSC) includes representatives of the EC, countries and relevant international organizations, such as Danube, Rhine and Mosel navigation commissions, as well as the Sava Commission. At the 1st PSC Meeting, held on October 1, 2008, in Brussels, the Committee was provided with detailed information on the structure, objectives, planned activities and results of the project and, thereof, supplied the Project Team with suggestions for its future work.

The work package “Infrastructure” appears to be especially interesting and relevant for the Sava Commission, as it should provide a framework for administrative and technical support to development of the River Information Services (RIS), as well as the future activities related to the implementation of the Joint Statement on Guiding Principles for the Development of Inland Waterways and Environmental Protection in the Danube River Basin.

Additionally, the Sava Commission is involved in the IWT innovation expert group within the PLATINA Project, whereof it will be represented by Siniša Špegar, Advisor for Technical Issues of Navigation in the Sava Commission Secretariat.
