Presentation of the "Pre-Feasibility Study for Rehabilitation and Development of the Sava River Waterway"

The official Presentation of the “Pre-Feasibility Study for rehabilitation and development of the Sava River waterway” was held on May 5th 2007 in Zagreb at the premises of the Ministry of sea, tourism, transport and development of the Republic of Croatia starting at 11:00.Preparation of the Pre-feasibility Study was financed by the Ministry of sea, tourism, transport and development of the Republic of Croatia, and complete process, involving the preparation of the Terms of Reference (ToR), tender procedure and selection of the consultant, as well as the regular meetings with the consultant was done by the Secretariat of the Sava Commission.

Among else, the presentation was attended by Mr. Kemal Karkin, the Chairman of the Sava Commission, Mr. Branko Bačić, the State Secretary at the Ministry of sea, tourism, transport and development of the Republic of Croatia, and representatives of the respective ministries from the Parties to the Framework Agreement on the Sava River Basin (FASRB) responsible for implementation of the FASRB, with exemption of representatives of the Republic of Serbia.

The Pre-feasibility Study was prepared by the consultant whose Consortium was composed of two Dutch companies (Witteveen+Boss and NEA) and one Croatian company (CRUP). Mr. Roberto Zanetti (Witteveen+Boss), the manager of the Study development, delivered the presentation on behalf of the Consortium. Thereby, he stressed that the results of the Pre-Feasibility study prove that investments into the Sava River waterway present the cost-effective and long-term sustainable project.

Within continuation of preparation of the Project Documentation for Rehabilitation and Development of the Sava River Waterway, the Booz Allen Hamilton (USA) started with development of the “Sava River IWT Economic Demand and Institutional, Policy and Legal Framework Study" in beginning of March 2007, and it should be completed in July 2007.
