Napredek pri izboljšavah in razširitvi Sava FFWS: Usposabljanje za napovedovalce
In the scope of the project Technical Assistance for the improvement, extension and operationalization of flood and low flow forecasting and warning system in the Sava River basin, the first training was organized in Ljubljana from November 11-13, 2025.
The project, financed by the Global Environment Facility and the World Bank and coordinated by the International Sava River Basin Commission is part of the regional component of the Sava and Drina Rivers Corridors Integrated Development Program (SDIP) - Phase I, which aims to strengthen transboundary water cooperation and improve navigability and flood protection in the Sava River basin.
The training was attended by 30 participants from the 10 beneficiary organizations, next to representatives from the International Sava River Basin Commission.
The 3-day event focused on introducing the participants - mainly being hydrological forecasters - to use the Sava FFWS as forecasting system and to understand the underlying simulation model concepts (HEC-HMS, Wflow and HEC-RAS).
As part of the training, also the forecasting control room of the Slovenian Environment Agency (ARSO) was visited, including presentations on the use of image velocimetry and the forecasting process at the ARSO.
The next training within the scope of the project will be organized in March 2026. This training will be focusing on the new components that are being developed during pre-release 0.2, which are mainly the topics related to low flow forecasting. By that time, it is planned that the new hardware is installed such that the development system of the Sava FFWS (hosted at RHMZ) can be used.
