Sediment, Water, and Biota Sampling Campaign in the Sava River Basin
As part of the project "Study on Sediment, Water and Biota in the Sava River Basin," which is implemented by the Consultant’s team led byJaroslav Černi Institute, in cooperation with partners Gruner Stucky and the Institute for Biological Research "Siniša Stanković," the field sampling campaign is carried out.
The campaign began in Sevnica (Slovenia) on September 15-16, 2025, and will continue at the following locations:
The study is being implemented within the framework of the Sava and Drina River Corridors Integrated Development Program (SDIP) - Phase I, with support from the World Bank and the Global Environment Facility (GEF).

Kick-off Meeting for the Study on Sediment, Water and Biota in the Sava River Basin
The Kick-off Meeting for the Study on Sediment, Water and Biota in the Sava River Basin marked the official launch of one of the regional activities under the World Bank’s Sava and Drina River Corridors Integrated Development Program (SDIP) - Phase 1, Part 4: Regional Cooperation, supported by the Global Environment Facility (GEF).
Held on July 2, 2025, in Zagreb, Croatia, the meeting was organized by the International Sava River Basin Commission (ISRBC), acting as the Client, with support from the Consultant, a Joint Venture composed of: Jaroslav Černi Water Institute (JCWI) as Lead Partner, Gruner Stucky Ltd, Gruner Balkans and the Institute for Biological Research “Siniša Stanković” - National Institute of Republic of Serbia. Together, these institutions bring extensive expertise in water management, environmental science, and engineering, supporting the goals of sustainable development and integrated water resources management in the Sava River Basin.

The meeting gathered 50 representatives of key stakeholders from Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Serbia, as well as the Client, the Consultant team, and the World Bank. Discussions focused on project objectives, implementation timeline, coordination mechanisms, and technical approaches. Topics included sediment modeling and monitoring, data collection and sampling methodologies, stakeholder engagement, and next steps to ensure effective and timely implementation.
The study is expected to provide a solid foundation for further understanding of sediment-related issues in the Sava River Basin by building the knowledge base, addressing recognized gaps, and delivering state-of-the-art knowledge to support the implementation of the FASRB and its related Protocol on Sediment Management.
Part 4 of SDIP - Phase 1 reinforces regional cooperation, promotes climate resilience, and supports integrated planning and sustainable management of shared water resources across the Sava and Drina River Corridors. We look forward to continued cooperation and joint efforts toward a more sustainable future for the Sava River Basin.
