Final Working Conference on the Climate Change Adaptation Strategy for the Sava River Basin

On 15 October 2026, the International Sava River Basin Commission (ISRBC) organised the Final Working Conference on the Development of the Climate Change Adaptation Strategy for the Sava River Basin in Zagreb, Croatia, which brought together more than 30 participants.. The Strategy is being developed under the Sava and Drina Rivers Corridors Integrated Development Programme (SDIP), supported by the World Bank and the Global Environment Facility (GEF).
The main objective of the conference was to present and discuss the draft Climate Change Adaptation Strategy, its accompanying Action Plan and the proposed framework for monitoring its implementation.
The consultant, JBA Consulting, in cooperation with Zadruga Granum Salis, presented the results of climate change assessments, including hydrological modelling of future climate scenarios, as well as the newly developed SavaAdapt Portal, an interactive tool for exploring climate change data and impacts across the basin.
Particular attention was given to proposed sectoral and cross-sectoral adaptation measures, transboundary cooperation, data sharing and modelling, as well as arrangements for monitoring and evaluating the Strategy's implementation.
The conference provided an opportunity to discuss the proposed measures and gather feedback for finalising the Strategy and Action Plan. It also marked an important step towards a coordinated approach to climate change adaptation and sustainable water and ecosystem management across the Sava River Basin.
