71st Session of the Sava Commission
The International Sava River Basin Commission held its 71st Session on 1-2 July 2026 in Ljubljana, with the participation of representatives of all Parties to the Framework Agreement, as well as observers and partner organizations.
During the session, the Commission reviewed the activities envisaged under the 2026 Work Programme in the areas of water management, navigation, flood protection, and the implementation of regional projects. Particular attention was devoted to the implementation of the Sava and Drina River Corridors Integrated Development Programme (SDIP), including activities related to the development of river basin management plans, the Climate Change Adaptation Strategy, the Sediment, Water and Biota Study, and the further development of the Sava Flood Forecasting and Warning System (Sava FFWS 2.0).
The Commission adopted amendments to the Navigation Rules in the Sava River Basin, approved the annual reports for the FY 2025, and adopted a number of decisions aimed at further strengthening transboundary cooperation and promoting the sustainable management of the Sava River Basin.
On the margins of the 71st Session, representatives of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Croatia signed the Rules on the Maintenance of the Navigable Waterway on the Shared Sections of the Sava River and a ceremonial handover of the presidency of the International Sava River Basin Commission took place, during which the Republic of Slovenia assumed the presidency from the Republic of Serbia for the next three-year term.
