River Basin Management

The Sava River Basin management aims at basin wide and internationally coordinated planning, development and management of water and related natural resources to ensure water of appropriate quality and required quantity for all downstream and upstream users, coping with the evolving environmental, economical and social circumstances and complex water management issues.

In the river basin management planning cycles, to meet challenging objectives for the Sava River Basin, measures are developing based on basin characterization, assessment of anthropogenic pressure on surface and ground water, inventory of protected areas, elaborated water monitoring networks and the surface and ground water status, taking into consideration integrative principals such as economic analysis of water uses and water services, public participation in the planning process and exploring co-dependencies of river basin management and other sectoral development.
