Radionica o izradi nacrta Plana upravljanja sedimentom

With the Framework Agreement on the Sava River Basin (FASRB) the four riparian countries: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Slovenia, and Serbia are involved in a transboundary cooperation that coordinates the International Sava River Basin Commission (ISRBC). A basic legal document for cooperation in the field of sustainable sediment management is the Protocol on sediment management to the FASRB (in force since October 2017) which obliges the Parties to the FASRB to cooperate in development of the Sediment Management Plan for the Sava River Basin.
With the support of the UNESCO Venice Office, the ISRBC has coordinated the preparation of the Outline of the Sediment Management Plan which represents an important step in the implementation of the provisions of the Protocol. On the November 29, 2021 a workshop was organized which gathered the stakeholders from water, navigation and hydropower sectors and the NGOs from the Sava riparian countries.
The main issues discussed at the workshop were:
  • Status on Sediment management at the Sava River Basin level
  • Status of the sediment management at the national/entity level (Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia)
  • Draft Outline of the Sediment Management Plan for the Sava River Basin aiming to provide an analysis of existing sediment management practices in the Sava River Basin and define further steps for development of full-fledged Sediment Management Plan for the Sava River Basin.
This workshop was an opportunity to present the main findings of the draft Outline developed by national and international experts, to discuss and to provide feedback which would help in finalizing the draft and in defining further steps towards the development of full-fledged Sediment Management Plan for the Sava River Basin as stipulated by the Protocol.
