Mandate and responsibilities

The Framework Agreement on the Sava River Basin (FASRB) provides to the International Sava River Basin Commission (Sava Commission) the broadest scope of work among European basin organisations, addressing development and sustainability issues, taking into consideration different water uses, ecosystems protection, protection against harmful effects of water and accidents involving the water pollution and linking the navigation development with the environmental protection.

In order to achieve the main goals of the FASRB, the Sava Commission brings decisions in the field of navigation with the binding character for all the Parties, to provide conditions for the safe navigation on the Sava River and its navigable tributaries.

On all other issues the Sava Commission provides recommendations and coordinates the development and implementation of joint and /or integrated Plan(s) on the management of the water resources of the Sava River Basin, preparation of the development programs, establishment of integrated systems (GIS, RIS, flood forecasting, etc.), harmonization of the activities with national and international organizations and the development of protocols for regulating specific aspects of the FASRB implementation.
