Sava Water Council

The Sava Water Council (SWC) has been established by the International Sava River Basin Commission (Sava Commission) (DECISION – 20/15 from November 30, 2015) as an advisory platform to ensure and facilitate public participation and broad stakeholder involvement in the work of the Sava Commission, relevant for the implementation of the Framework Agreement on the Sava River Basin (FASRB).
Through the SWC, the Sava Commission is informed about stakeholders concerns and needs and as well as about new iniciatives, scientific-development and innovations related to water resources, river basin management, navigation and other water uses (e.g. nautical and eco-tourism) and provides to the stakeholders the opportunity to express their opinions and propose solutions and innovations regarding the issues important for the FASRB implementation.
 

 
  • 1st  SWC meeting, Belgrade (Serbia), February 18-19, 2016 with the focus on discussing the main challanges of the FASRB implementation such as integration of water management and spatial planning, integration of economic development and environment protection, and integration of water policy and water science.
  • 2nd SWC meeting , Sevnica (Slovenia), June 6-7, 2016 where implications of river basin management planning on local level analyzing the top-down and bottom up approach to water management and new project ideas in the field of water protection, spatial planning and tourism development was defined. As a conclusion the participants proposed to prepare a project proposal for the development of the sustainable river tourism which comprises nautical, rural, cultural and eco-tourism for the Sava river basin. In synery with similar projects proposed within the Danube and Central Europe Strategy in connection with the Adriatic-Ionian Initiative.
